A fully fabricated shipping container conversion, delivered substantially complete and ready for positioning.

Finished 40ft by 10ft bespoke garage conversion with composite shiplap cladding

When a customer approached Clarke's Solutions looking for additional garage space, a conventional building wasn't the ideal solution. He wanted a structure that could be delivered to his property with minimal disruption and installation work.

We transformed a standard 40ft × 8ft shipping container into a bespoke 40ft × 10ft garage, providing 25% more width than the original container.

Built to the customer's requirements

The conversion included widening the container from 8ft to 10ft, external composite shiplap cladding, insulation, 18mm plywood internal lining, electrical installation, and plumbing and heating provisions.

The customer intended to install his own roller shutter door to match his existing garage. We prepared the opening for it, and he planned to add his preferred internal decorative finish after delivery. Clarke's Solutions can also supply roller shutters and more complete interior finishes where required.

A practical, insulated interior

The insulated, plywood-lined interior gave the customer a practical starting point, with the freedom to add his own chosen finish on site.

Minimal groundwork, minimal disruption

One of the biggest advantages of a prefabricated container conversion is that the majority of the work is completed at our depot, before delivery. The finished structure can then be transported and positioned as a single unit.

Shipping containers are designed to transfer significant loads through their corner posts. Depending on the ground conditions, loads and structural modifications, suitable supports beneath engineered load-bearing points may be sufficient rather than a full concrete slab. A widened conversion must be assessed for any additional support it requires.

That can mean less groundwork, less disruption and a faster installation than a traditional site-built structure. Once positioned, the remaining work is limited to the customer's chosen finishing touches and appropriate service connections.

A flexible alternative to traditional construction

The customer was exploring a temporary structure because he did not have planning permission for a conventional garage. A converted container offered an alternative to consider, although whether planning permission is needed depends on the site, intended use and circumstances. A container is not automatically exempt from planning controls.

The same approach can create workshops, storage facilities and other bespoke spaces.

Your space, built your way

At Clarke's Solutions, customers aren't limited to standard container dimensions. Whether you need additional width, specialist doors, insulation, electrics or a complete internal fit-out, we can design and fabricate a conversion around your requirements.
